When you set up a RAID, parametric data is written to the first sectors of the component hard drives to tell the RAID ROM that a RAID exists and how it has been set up.  If you want to change to a single system drive you must use CTRL and i at the same time, while the RAID status message is on the screen, to go to the RAID setup page.  Once there you can reset your drives to non-RAID.

After you get to non-RAID status you can follow the previous poster's suggestion of unplugging one of the hard drives before attempting to set up a single drive.  This action ensures that your system drive gets assigned as C:.  Also, be sure that the hard drive you are setting up is attached to SATA 0; that port is usually colored blue or some other color different from the rest so that you can identify it.  Dells generally do an automatic search for boot code on a hard drive attached to SATA 0, so attaching a single system drive to some other port makes booting more difficult.

since I posted, I've found the Ctrl+I tip and used it, I haven't modified the cabbling in the PC. So the issue is closed. my successful procedure :

* backup data with dell backup tool on DVD (two are necessary)

* delete raid array with ctrl+i and delete function

* change BIOS : RAID to AHCI

* reinstall system with DVD

* finish the installation as the first time

* format the second disk with the classical windows disk manager
