XPS 8500

Hi jjsjjsjjs, 

XPS 8500  has both onboard HDMI and VGA  covered with black caps.  

You may remove that to use the onboard VGA and HDMI ports.

Please reply for further clarifications.

I connected the HDMI cable from the pc to the tv.

Now what do I do?

Nothing has dinged or popped up to tell me, so I have no idea how to activate the tv.  It (tv) still has the blue screen when on HDMI 1.

I'd like to be able to watch a Netflix movie on the tv while I do something else on the pc:)

Is that 'do-able'?

Your video card has an HDMI socket you can use. The video card has the HDMI, VGA and DVI outputs. The other (covered) outputs connect to the on-CPU Intel video. I believe these ports are covered because they don't work. There may be a way to turn this video on, but as you have a working HDMI port, why worry.

It's likely your onboard video ports are disabled because your CPU does not support onboard video. You need to use the ports on your video card.

You should be able to set this up in the Nvidia Control Panel; right click on the Desktop. If you don't see the Control Panel, then you should upgarde the video driver on the Nvidia web site.

Yes, I only had a blue screen when plugged in to the pc port. 

I then plugged in to the 7570 card port and got the desktop on the tv.

Now if I can just figure out (hint hint:emotion-1:) how to set it all up so the XPS 8500 is main display and the tv simply to watch a Netflix movie as I do my work on the 8500.

I'm in business.  It's great!

I had to use extend not duplicate.  

I had to change sound to hdmi, so now it doesn't come out of the speaker but the tv.

I had to open Netflix in a 'new window'.

Then I had to learn how to move it to the other display.  Who would of thought you could do that:)
