XPS at wits end with memory problem
My XPS 720 will not allow the EPP to be swithced on in the bios when running 4 gig of ram. Remove 1 Gig and it will allow switching on, With 4 gig it wont post at all and diag light 3 and 4 are alight . This mem is Matched Nvidia EPP 800MHZ SLI Ready (PC2-6400 , 4-4-4 , 1T ,Dual Channel , SLI Ready EPP) manufactured by OCZ and approved by nvidia.
I have moved the mem around in various slots and all slots work and all mem works. I have upgraded bios to A05.
Running Win XP Pro 32 bit

Hi,
Diagnostic light 3 & 4 = Memory modules are detected, but a memory failure has occurred.

been there done that. read post. something else wrong, know what the diags lights mean. I am a dell field tech. what i wont to know is there an other problem here, that i dont know about

Sorry chaps. Please accept my apologies. I am at my wits end. Have used corsair mem , that did not work , used different corsair memory , and niether did that. I have tried all the diag , pick my fellow tech brains , and still no joy.
Am ready to deep six this machine. And no even thought we are field techs , sometimes we do miss the little things. and we dont know everything

I have it sat at auto at present. 1T was problematic. I will try the OCZ forums. I do have ntune installed , but not cpu-z. were would i get this.
I just thought , well nvidia board , nvidia approved mem , nvidia graphics = no probs.seems i was wrong

Have you posted or contacted OCZ on their forums? I would recommend it. Also have you installed CPU-z and looked at the memory timings tab as well as the SPD tab with the mem installed...might yield some more info..
Also do you have the 1T/2T set to auto in the bios???
I believe that another user had them make custom EPP profiles for the sticks...

Are all sticks same version?Some older sticks need more just a tad more volts.

A05 is pure evil with 4GB of 1066Mhz.
Read my other posts about this turmoil if you have time.
You got off easy.
A05 killed all 4 sticks of my RAM at 1066.
And they sent me replacement DIMMS.
One of which was broken.
Trying to go 1066 with 4GB at 2.2Volts is playing Russion Roulette with the RAM.
I imagine this is why Dell doesn't ship this configuration anymore in the XPS 720.
Clock it at 800 and be happy, or see if they will allow you to return 2 Gigs.
If you do get 4GB to run @ 1066, be prepared to make a warrantee call.
I feel your pain. I was down for over a week due to this problem.

two sticks have the legend , P39161.3.013 . the other two are P39161.3.016 . Going to return the two 016 and get another two 013
A05 is supposed to relieve the A03 blues. that was a trully evil bios , still see lots of problems
