XPS M170 - Which memory?

Hi all,

Apologies if this has been asked already, I did use the search but was unable to find a specific answer to the following:

I'm upgrading a Dell XPS M170 from 1GB to 2GB and wondering whether to go for PC2-4200 (CL4) or PC2-5300 (CL5)?

Any help appreciated

Cheers,
Adam.

big_loader,

By running the memory synchronous to the FSB (533Mhz) you have the least amount of latency and thus performance is at its best. The PC-5300 runs at 667Mhz while the PC-4200 at 533MHz. So go with the PC-4200.

Hi Chris ad thanks for your reply.

But you didn't really answer my question

Would there be any advantage to me getting PC-5300 instead of PC-4200??

I've already sourced provider thanks.

Cheers,
Adam.
