It isn't necessary to buy a new ac adapter if you wouldn't mind doing about 20-40 minutes of work.

The issue is that there are two bulks of wires that go into the main cord that plugs into your computer. What was happening is that there is.. for some reason.. about 1-2 centimeters in which the wiring is exposed on both bulks and that the two bulks are touching. With gradual use, you will tend to twist the cord around a bit and thus the wiring will also start to twist, and some of it will start breaking. I assume the beeping occurs because it's automatically preventing power from going to that area because if the 2 wires touch (with power flow), they will start sparking. A lot. Fire hazard, etc.

Here's a video on how you can fix it, although it isn't necessary to break the plastic like the guy did in the video (you can use a screwdriver to lift the casing up).

At the end, there will be some exposed wiring since you have to cut up some of the power cord's covering to fix it. But you can just use some electrical tape to cover it. Hell, since you're taking it apart now you can take advantage of the case being open and use some fire-resistant electrical tape to cover the inside wiring as well. Make sure you buy the right kind by the way, some can be set on fire due to overheating. A simple visit to wikipedia can tell you what kind you will need.
