1397 wireless card

I have a Vostro 1720 with a 1397 wireless card and the OS is Win8 pro. It suddenly give a message that it is off and after multiple attempts cannot change that status. All diagnostics show card is supposedly working normally. does not find network with router 2 feet away. enabled cycled and machine has been restarted several times.

Any thoughts?
