24 volt off grid power

I am trying to go off grid with my entire house and move to a 24 volt power supply.  If I use a voltage inverter I need to ramp it up to 120V and then use all these silly converters to go back down to 19 volts for my laptop, printer, etc.  losing power both ways.   Is it possible to run 24 volts direct into these machines or would the extra 5 volts fry them?  Are there 24V to 19V converters, adjustable to other electronics maybe?  Thanks,

You want to plug your laptop directly into the 24v with out the adapter? Wont work. the system needs to sense the adapter. Plus your other device will require 120v to operate

Although there's some tolerance on the 19,5 volts for DELL laptops, it's better to stick with it.

The problem with (24V) battery power is that particularly the charging messes up voltage stability. Effects like this can happen.

In the cae you describe, a step-down DC/DC voltage converter does the job - truckers and sometimes people with boats / mobilehomes have those DC/DC converters to run their laptop on a 24 volt system iso a inverter in the middle. Mind the quality of the DC/DC converter it should be able to take spikes on the input side well above 30 volts. Specially if connected to solar cell equipment.

However for DELL laptops the ordinary DC/DC voltage step/down converter doesn't charge the battery, because it requires an ID chip like in the AC adapter.

To charge DELL batteries standalone, have a look at DELL stand-alone laptop battery chargers.
