3rd party power cable damage HELP!

Hello all,

I'm looking for a power cable for my 1505e (6400) that will work on an airplane. I have run into sites on the web that state Dell has a patented power system and permanent damage has happened when people try to use 3rd party power cables. I'm looking at reputable manufacturers (kensington, targus, igo) but I wanted to know if anyone had any experience with this before I buy a cable for a flight next week.

TIA,
l

I know you say that you are looking at a reputable manufacturers, but I just thought I'd say that I have the Dell brand power adapter for my Inspiron 6000 (very similar to your 1505e). I don't know if you noticed this model or not. It can be auto, air, and AC, which can be nice since you don't have to carry two adapters (one for DC power and one for AC power) around with you. Maybe the ones you are looking at have all three options too.

However, if you do get one from Kensington, Targus, Igo, etc., just make sure you get the correct wattage otherwise you may damage your notebook.
