4 beeps and a black screen

I have a Studio 1749. When I went to start it up the screen did something crazy  then went black and the laptop started with a series of 4 beeps. I  tried removing the  battery and restarting but it continues to beep with a black screen.  What does this mean and how can I get it to operate?

Hi,

Thank you for writing to the Dell Community Forum.I am Jennifer and I work for the Dell Social media Team .

When the system fails to boot with 4 beeps being heard from the system it indicates RAM Read/Write failure .I would suggest you to shutdown the system and remove the memory module then turn on the system in the process record the no of beeps heard .If the system has more than one memory module would recommend you to turning on the system with 1 memory module at a time .To eliminate if the slot on the motherboard is working fine if possible would suggest you to test this system's memory module on a different system .

I hope this helps .Please feel free to write to us with the service tag of the system (sent via private message)  in case of any further queries.

Have a good day!

Kindest Regards,
