4 beeps, no screen?

My laptop was working this morning and then when I went to use it a couple hours later the screen wouldn't turn on and it had 4 beep sounds. I have a dell Inspiron 14z. Got it maybe 2 years ago. This is out of the blue. Solutions please?

thanks!

Hi Amyjam87,

4 Beeps on start-up of a Dell system means a Memory read / write failure. Please let me know the system model. I’d suggest that you follow the steps mentioned below and check for issue resolution.

  1. Switch off the computer.
  2. Disconnect the AC adapter from the system.
  3. Remove the battery from the computer.
  4. Press and hold down the power button for 15 seconds.
  5. Then connect back all the peripherals and check if you are able to switch on the system.

In addition, I’d suggest you to reseat each memory on the system and figure out the faulty memory.

Hi Rav, Ts an Inspiron 14z- 5423 Reg model- p35g Reg type - p35g001 Hope that's what you needed. Let me know otherwise. Also, I hate to sound technically illiterate but I tried to figure out where the battery was and couldn't. Where is it? Internal no doubt! Thanks Amy

Hi Amyjam87,

The Inspiron 5423/14z has an option of a reset button. In situations where the system freezes up, since the battery on this system is internal. Please press the reset button which will reset the system.

Also, connect the system to an external display and check if the system is powering up. Also Please clean the memory and the slots with clean cloth to check if it works.
