5600 AirCard

I am working on a Dell Latitude E6400 with a "D637N  MODEM..., WIRELESS..., DW5600, MINICARD... ". (The driver reads as "Dell - Firmware"/"Wireless 5600 (EVDO-HSPA) Mobile Broadband Mini-Card" under the Communications section of Drivers and Downloads.) The OS for this laptop is Vista 64 bit. The driver works with both 32-bit and 64-bit.

The neat thing about this card (aka "Gobi" card) is that it can work with several cell phone providers, such as Verizon, AT&T, etc. The problem began when the end user choose "Verizon" instead of AT&T for the provider (the laptop does have a AT&T sim in it).

The problem is making the laptop work with the mobile broadband card. I've been on the phone with various Tech Support people from Dell & AT&T. Initially, in device manager, I BELIEVE, the card was listed under Network Adapters" or" Modems" - I am not sure. Now, after uninstalling the driver and re-installing it shows under "Ports (COM & LPT)". During this re-installation process, it showed with a yellow triangle/black exclamation mark. However, after a second install (and allowing Vista to search the C: drive and ALL subdirectories, the card appears to have no problems. (It is showing on COM Port 8.)

BUT, the Dell ControlPoint software shows the choice for "Mobile Broadband", but it is grayed out. I am in communications with Dell Support and they are working on the problem. I WANTED TO POST THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE OTHERS MAY BE ABLE TO GIVE ME MORE INSIGHT THAN I CURRENTLY HAVE and/or OFFER ME SOLUTIONS.

In summary, my questions are:

Is the card installed correctly?

How do I make DCP see the card?

Are there any other tips?
