600m too hot underneath?

For a while now, after I use my laptop for not even a half an hour, the underneath starts to get really hot...espeically the left side. When I put my hand by the fan, I can feel a little bit of air.. but it seems like it should be working harder, especially since everywhere around it is getting so hot. Does anyone know what is going on? This doesn't seem like it's normal...

Totally normal.  Left side (under your left palm when you type) is the hard drive.  Very warm.  If you use it on your lap, consider a laptop desk.  I got one with Thinsulate that works well for a great price.

Actually, I find the same problem.  However, my fan doesn't seem to be running at all, and after a while (less than an hour) my screen gets all messed up with pixellation.  Within a few moments it's 100% garbage.

Only thing that seems to help is shutting down and letting the machine cool down.

Can I get a replacement fan?

I think its normal. My girlfriend has one and the processor, harddisk and wifi card (not sure about this one) are all on the left side so it gets hotter there. Her fan used to run a lot and even then it gets uncomfortably hot. I got her an active cooler pad and its much better now.

My Inspiron 1000 would get so hot that it could fry an egg on its underside. Not that I tried this but I betcha it could! It was super hot. I am now getting a Thinkpad which I have read doesn't get hot at all. I expect it to get somewhat warm obviously, but I think the Inspiron I have just wasn't very sufficient with cooling itself. Or I was using it for too long at a time.

The I1000 is powered by P4/Celeron I think. So that could be your problem there. My I5150 is quite capable of warming up the desk although I haven't tried gaming with it on my lap so I don't know how hot it can go. Maybe you could have a go at cleaning the heatsink and fan if you still have it with you. I've just completely cleaned out the I600m after I noticed that it was almost completely clogged. My girlfriend just doesn't bother.

Thanks, Chee:) I did actually take the whole thing apart yesterday and the fan had a nice coat of dust in it. The power isn't working on it right now (I say right now because I am determined that one day it shall again live  :womanwink: ) so it's kinda a mess of junk.
