8500 video

Hi:

Anybody know how to fix this problem. I post a message several days ago regarding the bad screen on my 8500 during shut-off. I found that once I un-install the video driver for Geforce4 4200, the problem went away. So I download and install the latest version of the driver again, but the problem is still there.

Right now my LCD is not only showing half black and half blue during shut down, but the screen is grey instead of black during powerup. I have a bad feeling that my 2 month old PC is going to die very soon.

I never expected such a bad quality after I spend so much money, probably  I should re-turn it.

Ummmm, I have this 'problem' too, it is caused by the latest system BIOS and is a cosmetic issue..... it is basically the Video card shutting off before the system does, therefore creating video distortions, and is why it doesn't occur when the video card is uninstalled. It is not causing any adverse effects (as I said, its cosmetic) so don't worry, hopefully it is addressed with the next BIOS update.

I still get this problem after I use the latest BIOS, will the video card be damaged? are you sure this is just a BIOS problem?

I too get a wierd display when I close the lid. The screen will distort, and then bleed white from the bottom to the top. If I hibernate or suspend the machine, I never get video. I'm wondering if there is a real issue with the BIOS update released for the nVidia Gforce 4200 a few days ago.

BTW, what driver have you installed and what is the version you are running?

This problem happened to me a month ago when I installed the modded 53.03 drivers.  After going back to 52.16, the problem went away.  I'm going to install the new A05 video bios right now to see if I get the problem again.

I am using the original driver right now. I did try to use the latest driver posted on dell webpage, it didn't help, besides the latest driver will disable the clone option.
