If you have a solid notebook (and you do), consider getting a desktop to go with it. Given the price differential between an i9100 and a desktop (you can build a very solid system yourself for under $1000), and what you'll lose on the 8600, it'll be less expensive.
Why did you sell an i8600 planning to buy another i8600?...... anyway, the i9100 has more power as mentioned, but sacrifices all portability. It is large, heavy, has short battery life and looks like it parachuted head first into an ugly tree, hitting every branch on the way down.
If you look for: - Speed: i9100 - Portability: i8600 - Heavy duty gaming: i9100 - Looks: i8600 - DVD mastering: i9100 - Only office solutions: i8600
With the i9100: - Allways have an outlet nearby; - Have a kind of platform to let it sit on your legs (otherwise your legs will burn up/get crusched by the little legs on the i9100); - With gaming, the battery will last about an hour; - With just internet, about 1,5-2 hours;
For performance: the i19100 blows away the i8600, with ease!
Furthermore: if an i8600 falls onto an i9100, its's ok: if an i9100 falls onto an i8600: bye bye i8600.
How much can you expect to pay before coupons: Go and configure it and you will see!
How much after coupons: Well it depends on which ones you use. I am not great on these as I am not in the US (we don't use them in Australia), but I can direct you to this thread on the Notebook forums which lists all the latest and greatest coupons. Also, if you google "Dell coupons" you'll get some hits.

Pros: faster machine, better video options.
Cons: heavier, runs hotter, shorter battery life.

I have sold my 8600 and planning on getting another 8600 until I saw the 9100.\
I know new is not always better, and i Know that running theP-IV will run hotter.
Is the battery life short due to the Processor or just the different setup?
Would like to hear about any 9100 owners pros or cons.
I have a Dell XPS (1 yr) for a desktop, great machine.
