9200 car adapter

Has anyone managed to find a 12V DC car adapter for dell's inspiron 9200? I have tried looking for it in dell's UK store but... I can't find anything even close but I have found the documentation telling you how to use it if you’re lucky enough to find it in the first place.

I have a desktop from dell and have had no problems with them, but I am starting to wonder if Dell has gone seriously downhill since then. I have tried customer support no luck and they no longer supply OS restoration disks?? Come-on what we supposed to so if/when we need to reinstall I know that I have had to once with my desktop.

Any help with part numbers will be gratefully received before I go completely mad with dell

Thanks

Chris

Well, I don't know about the UK part, but I can suggest Wagan for an adapter.  It ran my 5100 no problem ***and*** I even had computer speakers.  (I had a mini-theater setup inside my vehicle where I put the subwoofer in the trunk & the satellites on the sides of the floor in the backseat.

I was using the Wagan 150W which had 2 plugs on it and it worked flawlessly.  Since the 9200 uses less power (probably) than the 5100, I'd think the 150w would easily power the 9200.  Here's a link to Wagan.....I dunno if you can pick 'em up in the UK??

I would not use a 12 volt  adapter.... get a ac INVERTER
and use your ac thingy that came with your laptop...that way you don;t burn up your ac inverter or motherboard in your laptop!! hope this helps!!! they plug  into your lighter socket and invert the 12 volt current to 120 volt current.

The above Wagan unit ***is*** an inverter.

You'll hear folks tell you that you need to use a "pure sine" inverter, however most current models available at stores are "stepped sine" and while they're not as pure as pure sine, I've been using mine for about a year now on 2 Dells and an IBM Thinkpad so I think the Wagan unit works well for its purpose.

Dell has a car adaptor for the 9200. They just came out with as far as know around February the time I purchased my 9200. I was looking for one when I first got mine and no luck. 2 weeks later Dell listed the car adapter in accessories. My question is, is it safe to plug into my car. Will it blow a fuse?

Adding on to an old post is not suggested.
Why would an adapter designed to plug into a 12 volt car socket not be safe to plug into a car?

THe Dell Car Adapter is $110 an this is $38. If I have to spend more to make sure I don't mess up anything I will. If the inverter works then fine by me. Hate to keep asking the same questions over an over but I'm not a computer guru. Just someone who like techy stuff.

How about spending less and getting a much better unit?  :smileywink:  $29.99, 300 watts.  That's what I bought.

I went to CompUsa. The guy told me I may blow a fuse if I plug the adapter in my vehicle. He said the 9200 pulls to much power. I am not an expert so I value any information that people give to me. I also noticed several members are using inverters. Do you know anything about that?

IF the adapter is made for the 9200 then it will work fine.  Generally, CompUSA salesmen aren't very knowledgeable.  If the computer pulls too much power for the adapter, usually the adapter will stop working or pop a fuse.

I have an inverter that I use in the car.  Costs less, easier to use and more flexible.  Doesn't work in a plane, but they are limited to 70 watts anyway.
