AC Adapter not recognized at boot / error message

This problem started yesterday.  Everytime I start my 8500 the system stops booting and displays an error message.  The message is somthing like this:  The AC Power Adapter can not be recognized by the system.  Your system will not function at full power.  Press F1 to not display this message.  F2 to run setup.  F3 to continue.  When I enter setup it say my 2.2 cpu is operating at 1.2.  (ouch)

I suspect a bad adapter.  Any other answers?

HellWalker,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

Try updating the system BIOS.  If the error is still present, you should consider contacting Dell Support for a solution.

I don't see how it could be the bios since it has worked fine for two months.  I will look into it.

Thanks for the reply.

im having the same issue, but the bios updates do not work because they require that both the AC and battery be attached, and the AC adapter is not recognized as being attached properly
