ac adapter plug missing "connector"

the ac adapter for my c810 is missing a metal connector on the plug that connects to the computer. am i going to have to buy a new power adapter or is there a way i can replace this connector? (small metal piece) there are 3 prongs on the computer and the plug from the ac adapter to the computer has 3 female jacks that plug into it, one of them is missing its metal piece so i cant get any power from the outlet, or charge batteries (they are all dead now)

Hi,

Check before you buy anything, your problem could be the computer, or the adapter. The third pin is not used in you machine, it is used on the C840 to tell the computer a 90 watt adapter is pulgged in.

So where do the three pins from the wall plug end up. On the computer's side there's a pin and a ring (could be two if outside ring and inside ring aren't connected). Also if anybody knows about the reasoning behind the cord being hardwired to the block and running all 3 wires inside of each other. With the outside on being impossible to repair once the cord begins to pull out of the block and fray, soon the inner wires will follow suit and then it'll just stop one day. Happended to me, the only reason I didn't get it fixed (it's still under the 3 year warranty) was that when my boss' battery gave out (also happened to me in first 3 months) I tried to get a new one in for him, but after much time wasted on the phone and the website, I gave up and let him do it through emails and patience. I know what the problem is each time, I'd just like to have a new power adapter (or battery, or CD burner or whatever dies) and I'll send the defective on back to you, there's no need for all of the "Customer Service" all of the time. I'm sure it'd cost less to just replace the device in most cases, with little or no waiting compared to the costs of keeping a Customer Support (and Frustration) department fully staffed. I'm not asking why the computer won't turn on and call Dell, only to "fix" it by plugging it in. Sorry for the swing in topic, but I've had a long night trying to find out how to use the $300+ warranty that I now wish I had, I could by a couple of AC adapters for $300.

Extended warrantys work like insurance in that for risk management to work,
most of us pay in a Lot More than we ever take out. Dell (and other company's as well)
are always going to make you jump through hoops before you collect.

I wish the plugs that insert would not protrude straight out from side
of portable and be so subject to damage as well as damaging the main board.

I have two AC and one DC for both this D800 and the old Latitude LM. On
the LM, two of the plugs have failed, after solder repair to those tiny
wires, I made the plugs have a 90 degree turn and no longer stick out
for further damage.

Dave,

The " C '" series is the plug I mention. The " D " series would be what you have. The pin in the centre tells the computer the wattage, and the inside and outside of the " ring " are seperate. If you are looking for an adapter, have a look at Parts-people. There prices are good, they are also quick and easy to deal with.
