Adapter/system charging point problem

Restart the laptop and tap F2 key at Dell logo screen to enter the BIOS.

Please check and let me know what’s listed next to “AC Adapter Type” in the Main tab. If it is listed as “Unknown”, the adapter is not being detected by the laptop. Since you have mentioned the LED on the AC Adapter is glowing, the issue would be with the motherboard.

Could be the adapter, jack or mainboard -- call Dell for a warranty repair.

Hi thanks for your response.I tried to follow your instructions and it says that the adapter is fine.

The battery icon shows the adapter is plugged but then theres a pop up that the adapter is not getting recognized . and the battery is not getting charged.

what do you think is the problem?

Most common cause:  damaged pin in the connector on the AC adapter.  The adapter CAN power the system but will not charge the battery.

Second most common cause:  bad DC jack inside the system.

Third most common:  bad power or mainboard.

Since your system is under warranty, call Dell for warranty service.

May I know what exactly is listed next to “AC Adapter Type” in BIOS? We can try updating the BIOS provided the battery has at least 15% charge. Please visit the following website: http://dell.to/17OI3ut

Enter your computer’s service tag and click “Submit”. Select the operating system installed. Download and run the BIOS file. Ensure to connect the AC Adapter while updating BIOS.

Note: Do NOT power off the computer during BIOS update as it can lead to hardware failure.

Please check if the ac adaptor is showing as not recognised or is it showing as unknown in BIOS , if this is the case then the motherboard is bad and it needs to be replaced, for that please call dell technical support at 8772931187 and get the ac adaptor , motherboard replaced.
