Alps touchpad won't save settings

I recently purchased a used Inspiron 600m, great little computer except for the Alps touchpad.  When I change the pointer speed under pointer options, it will revert back to the default after I shut down the computer.  I have installed both the latest version of saftware as well as 5.4.102.8 with no luck.  I also have loaded drivers for a logitech wireless mouse.  I have been able to get both of them work correctly except for the pointer speed issue.  Any suggestions?

did you re-install the driver from dell?

try to see if this affects other user accounts.

Yes, I downloaded both of them from the Dell website.

I have a Latitude D630 and having the exact same problem.  I've tried reinstalling the driver with no change.

Glad I'm not the only one, still have not resolved my problem with it.
