The DOS Asset.com cannot be used to change a LAPTOP service tag. If the board is new with no tag you can one time change it via CMOS Setup. Otherwise there is a proprietary software disk that is not publicly downloadable. Its for Dell internal use only.

Can someone provide me this utility? I got another E6410 on the bench where asset.com fails when trying to assign a new Servicetag for a replaced mobo.
"Error: Cannot change the ServiceTag.
Please ensure the tag is in a correct format and the SETUP password is disabled."
Well, the Servicetag is in the correct format and there is no Setup Password set. I'm a certified DELL Server, Desktop, Laptop, Printer etc technician.
Btw the replacement mobo came with a servicetag (since it was taken out from a de-commissioned E6410 from our inventory), so changing/setting it in UEFI/BIOS is no option.

Hi BCSTechD ,
The asset.com utility can be found on the FTP site:
ftp://ftp.us.dell.com/utility/assetA00.exe
Directions for entering a Service Tag Number:
1. Create the Asset Tag utility diskette from the download above - or from the Dell Open Manage Server Assistant CD (DOSA)
2. After making the diskette, perform a safe reboot to the diskette created in step #1.
3. After booting to the diskette, enter the following command (substitute the actual 5-7 digit system Service Tag for the X's); asset /s XXXXXXX
4. Once this action has completed, the system can be rebooted.

Wow, you got me jump thru hoops - finding a 32 bit computer , next find a floppy disk drive .
The /s switch is a hidden switch. I tried but it said to disable setup password - there is no setup password in BIOS.

Yes I agree. That can't be right. The E6510 doesn't come with a FDD. This is a copy&paste answer from some internal KB.
So the original question is still unanswered. Well.

The utility is available on a bootable flash drive but is released only to Dell certified technicians.
