Audio Problem with 9100

Hi,

 

A couple of days ago someone tripped over the cord from my headphones while it was plugged into my 9100.  The next day I noticed that the sound output from the speakers wasn't there.  I tried the headphones again and they worked and after that the speakers worked again.  Today I found that the on-board mic didn't work.  I plugged in a mic from another computer and the 9100 immediately shut down.

 

Is the audio in this system built in to the motherboard or is it a separate plug-in device?  I'm considering whether to pursue a repair.  I'm reluctant to plug in the external mic again.
