Backlit Keyboard

I just received my Ultrabook 15z and cannot get the backlit keyboard the illuminate. Any suggestions?

Hi Stoney57,

Follow below steps to enable keyboard back light.

Press < Fn >< F6 > to turn on/off the Keyboard Backlight. Also, here is how you can change backlight settings such as power save mode, backlight status in quickset.

Browse to c:\program file\dell\quickset

Launch BacklitKB.exe

Thanks for the reply. My keyboard has the icon for the backlit keyboard on the F6 key, but it does not function. The BacklitKB.exe replied that the backlit keyboard could not be detected.

Hi Stoney57,

Restart the computer and tap F2 at Dell logo.

Under “Advanced” tab, Scroll down to Function key behavior and select “Multimedia Key”.

Now save the settings and exit BIOS.

Restart the computer and try using FN and F6 to turn on/off the keyboard back light.

Also, install Quickset from below mentioned link:

http://dell.to/XUPreo

Click on the above link and download quickset. Now follow above steps in the previous post to enable keyboard back light through Quickset.

Followed your instructions but still no backlight. Get the same message not finding the keyboard.

Please continue with Dell-Rajesh R

 

Go to Dell Warranty Status enter your service tag, click on original configuration. Look and see if the backlit keyboard is listed there.

 

(Windows 8)

Hit the Windows key and the x keys at the same time, control panel, Windows Mobility Center.

 

Do you see the backlit keyboard options listed there? It should look like this...

Please check with Dell-Rajesh R to confirm this. I don't think there is a backlit keyboard listed.

 

I listed mine below. The word backlit should be listed.

This is what is listed in the original configuration:

JR6CR1   Module, Keyboard, 86, United States, English, C13UB

RNN5P1   Keyboard, 86, United States, England/English, C13UB

I do not see the keyboard brightness in the Windows Mobility Center

Thank you for the service tag. There is no Back light keyboard ordered with the computer. The standard keyboard was shipped.

The invoice and the packing list indicate that it was ordered with a backlit keyboard. I'm going to return it!!

I have the same issue with my Inspiron 15Z 5523. No backlight control. I originally had the controls in the mobility center, now it is gone. But I never had ant backlight in the keyboard. Is there anything I can do?
