Battery Care tip Question....

Hi fellow forummers!!

i would like to ask if i need to completely discharge my 9cell XPS M1530 laptop battery 1x or 2x a month?

Also, when I plan to use my laptop like at least 5 hours or it will be on for almost like 2 days, do i have to take out the battery to make sure the battery wouldn't be overcharged or be damaged from continously being connected at the AC adapter?

Also, there are some instances that my i am using my laptop and it is plugged and fully charged on my room. Then it so happens I have to work downstairs so I unplugged the laptop automatically switching it to battery mode then I go down to my office and......

1)....is it okay to plug the laptop at the AC power outlet after a brief trip downstairs?

OR

2)....do i have to let the laptop use up its battery power until it will go to a low power state before plugging it again to make sure I would not damage(?) the battery from unplugging and replugging it at such a short time?

Well, that's about it. Hope you could help me solve this battery care tip. :)

you will find people have mixed opions on this,to leave in or not.I personaly just leave it in when on ac all the time.As for do you need to drain battery no.These batt are Lithim Ion which has no memory effect unlike the older ones.Nickle cadium or the metal hidrite(spelling)?Soas for as charging its ok to always top it off.Leaving it in while on ac thats personal prefence.

The new batteries and charging systems are supposed to be smart.

I unplug/plug the AC back in going from upstairs to downstairs - or to my brother's house down the street (do have the Free Fall Sensor HDD). Much easier and probably better than shutting down/restarting.

I leave the battery in all the time. More as a battery backup. Keeping data (avoiding a hard drive crash) is worth more to me than the price of a new battery.

If I read correctly, it's not good to discharge LiON batteries to a low power state.

Also, the battery warranty is only a year if you use it or not.

What you are doing is fine. The battery will not overcharge. The battery contains a 'smart' circuit which manages everything. Lithium batteries will degrade after 300 or so recharges, but I have never seen a real study to confirm real lifetime. My daughter has am E6000 over three years old whidh still has about 80% of original capacity The key if you routinely run on battery is not to discharge completely each time, and if discharged, don't let it go too long before recharging. The battery will shut down at a safe level when discharged, but if an older battery is completely discharged and not recharged, the battery could lose additional charge to the point that the smart circuit will think it's dead and refuse to charge it. This would happen with Ni/Cd batteries, but usually you could defeat the computer based control program and allow it to recharge. However, at this point, the battery would not last too much longer.
