Battery driver problem - seems impossible to fix
I have an old Latitude CPx laptop (which I'm on right now) that is perfect for my needs for traveling and work. I have a problem with it that is seemingly impossible to fix, though.
It works only with the AC cord plugged in. It will not charge the battery, nor will it even work with a battery that is charged.
When I boot up, I get a message saying "Windows could not load the installer for Battery" and then it puts me into a Wizard which in turn looks for a driver but then cannot find it.
I am using Windows 2000 on a new hard drive, if that helps.
I would love to be able to be truly portable with this thing, for now it's not much better than a desktop as it has to be plugged in to be used.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

the driver should already be inbuilt into windows.

Yes, power scheme is set to portable/laptop. It seems whatever driver it is that is needed should be somewhere in the windows folders, because every time I boot up and get the message "could not isntall battery driver" it then goes to the "Found New Hardware" wizard, where it prompts me to have it search for the driver, which it never is able to find.
I've checked the Microsoft site but they have no such driver there for download.
