Battery indicator

Question

Hi, I have an Inspiron 5100, and for some reason it always thinks it is on mains power. This is regardless of mains being plugged out or not. I really need to see the battery level as I do a lot of travelling. I do not know if this is related, but when I do a Shutdown, it gives the screen saying you can now safely power off your computer, instead of actually shutting down. Restarts are not a problem. I have all the latest XP Pro updates. Thanks for Your help,   John.

Go ino the power options and see if it's set to portable/laptop. Post back if this helps or not.
