Battery Life
Was recently told not to leave my laptop plugged in (AC Power) while using it. This would ruin the battery and it's better to leave the battery run down and then plug it in. What is the best thing to do? I don't want to replace the battery (just had to on my daughter's portable dvd player because she had it plugged in while the re-chargeable battery was also on the player).

Used or left idle, lithium batteries age - they will run 300-500 cycles or 18-24 months before they no longer hold a useful-lifetime charge.
On many of the newer systems, it's not possible to use the system without the battery, as it contains one of the feet that stabilize the system on a desktop.
