Battery Noise

Question

About an hour ago heard a squeaking/hissing sound.  I hunted for it and it was coming from the battery.  It stops whenever I unplug the AC adapter, and now it is done charging and the sound has stopped.  I have never heard it before.  The battery has charged for about 3 hours.  Its not hot or anything unusual.  Is this bad?   Latitude D820

sure sounds bad - did you check your battery and see it was affected by the recall?

My battery is not affected, the battery (and computer) are brand new. I checked the number several times to be sure.

well it sounds like your battery is venting carbon dioxide. Venting is a safety feature that keeps the cells from exploding.   I don't know how much gas is produced under normal charging conditions, if venting occurs all the time or only when the pressure exceeds a certain point and how much gas would be considered excessive... Maybe your venting is normal it's just loud on your battery for some reason.   Overcharging is one cause for excessive amounts of gas   I would call Dell right away and tell them that your battery is venting
