I’d be glad to assist you regarding the same. This computer has the latest version of BIOS installed and you can do that by pressing F2. As the BIOS screen loads select the option General under settings and select the option Boot Sequence which will display the boot sequence. The sequence available should be as follows :
Diskette Drive Internal HDD USB Storage devices CD/ DVD/ CD- RW drive Onboard NIC
Please check the same and let us know if any issues.
Please let us know what options you see when pressing the F2 during the startup and if it takes you to BIOS screen As it’s the Windows 8 OS, if you’re able to get into BIOS please disable the UEFI option and select the Legacy boot options.
Please tap F2 to go to BIOS screen and provide us the screenshot of the same so we can identify as where we’re stuck. Please send me the snapshot of the screen where you’re not able to proceed.

Thanks for the quick reply ...
I went through the process as outlined in your post originally. the issue was, and still is, that I do not see the Boot sequence listed.
I don't know how to change it if I cant see it.

beginning to understand (I think) cant get to Legacy options unless I get rid of UEFI and therefore cant use Secure Boot options.
Am I correct in understanding that there is no way to boot from a CD/DVD if you are enabling Secure Boot?
Thanks .. T
