Brightness problem with INSPIRON 1545

Hi,  I am using Inspiron 1545 with vista home basic.. when i plug in my laptop for charging the screen gets half dimmed. when i unplug it comes to normal. when i searched i cant find quickset folder in my system to adjust the brightnesss, what is the actual problem and please tell me the ways to get over it. thanks.

This is the DESKTOP section.  Since this is a Laptop, best to post in the appropriate forum section - the Laptop section.  I don't know if this would be a hardware issue or a video issue.  There are separate sections within the Laptop section, just as there is for this Desktop section.

You should be able to use the shortcut keys to adjust the brightness. Hold the Function key and press the up arrow to brighten. Change settings in Display settings in Control Panel. The Quickset utility should have a taskbar icon on the lower right. Hover the mouse over each icon to see if it's there.

You can try that - but you'll almost certainly need to call Dell if it does't work.  The odds are overwhelming that when the system dims the display on AC power, that the mainboard is faulty.
