Broken Case - Need to know correct part number from various options

I bought a Dell Inspiron 5000e with a 15” UXGA screen more than 3 year ago (no longer covered) and the back part of the screen case has now cracked in the back at the hinge level (from what I read I am not the only one). The laptop Service Tag is 8CBBB01 and the express service code is 181588 56049.

I tried calling dell support previously with no success but have now found a place (www.parts-people.com ) where I can buy the needed spare part, but first I must know which model the screen is, wether  Samsung (S), IBM (I), Hitachi (H), or Toshiba (T). Can anyone please let me know which is the correct type it is and what the correct part number is or where I can find it out myself with out taking my laptop apart (It is my only laptop, which am still using and therefore plan only to take it apart once the new replacement is with me)

I would also like to know if there is any technical manual that can be emailed (or any site which can be visited) that shows how the Inspiron 5000e is taken apart so that I can install the case by myself.

I appreciate your help.

Hi,

Dell have on-line instructions to take the machine apart. I would still take it apart to check the brand. Later models told you in the Bios, but these had a lot of similar parts that dont fit. Look for the Dell part numbers, they are 5 alpha-numeric figures. If the back is cracked, you will need the Bezel ( the front trim ) as well. If you take it apart first, you can be sure to get all the parts you need before you start. Getting the part numbers will reduce the chance of getting / ordering a wrong part.

You should be able to call tech support and have them pull up your order.  On the order it will state what mfr made the LCD in your laptop. They should be able to give you this info regardless if you are under warranty.

Go here:

http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/en/product_support_hub?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&~ck=mn

Then enter your service tag. You can find out all your system specific info there.

Hello Joe Newbie,

Welcome to the Dell Community Forum,

The LCD part number is determined by the DPN number located on the bottom of your system(I5000e). Post that number and I will inform you of the correct LCD type.

Thanks,

Hello Joe Newbie,

You will actually see a DPN ***** located on the bottom of a I5000e. This is used to identify which LCD that you have. For example:

DPN 49XRR the part number is 53VKG 15.0"UXGA LCD Service Kit Toshiba(Includes LCD,cable and Inverter.)

This actually maybe the LCD part number that you need, please verify the DPN number to be sure.

Thanks,
