C640 wont boot?

Question

Hi   A few days ago my Dell C640 stopped booting up.   What happens is that when I push the powebutton the computer start the boot sequens and I can see the Dell logo and the post menu, but then after 2 seconds or so, the computer just dies.  If I then push the powerbutton again, all the lamps on the computer lights up and then dies again. After flicking the powebutton for a couple of times, the only thing that lights up is the powerlamp that just blink for one time.   If I then just let the computer just lay around for a while I´m back to step one again, the boot screen shows and then the computer shuts down.   So far I have tried to reseat the memory, swithed the battery, unscrew hd and dvd and replaced the poweradapter but nothing works?   Any ideas what can be wrong?     Regards//Frederik - Sweden

I have the same problem with my c640. I think its a system board. Where can i purchase the new board besides Dell?   TIA

Hi,   Google the part number, and see what you find. The MBD is also used in the Inspiron 4150, the Bios can be flashed over. Before buying an expensive part, try to eliminate anything you can as a cause. Reseat the CPU, it wont take long and is another step. I think I just pinpoint the problem. After removing CMOS battery the laptop is working fine for about two hours now. I couldn't even finish booting before. I'll test it a little a longer and then will order new CMOS battery.   My father also has a C640 with the same problem. Hopefully I can give him a good news. Hi,   Good luck with it, the Cmos battery isnt needed to boot and it will only ask for the date and time when you boot if it has failed.                                                                                  Regards Chris
