C840 AC adapter issue
I am getting the message:
"Warning: 70 watt (20V, 3.5A) AC adapter detected. System will not be capable of running in full performance mode without a 90 Watt (20V, 4.5A) AC adapter."
I'm using the PA-9 adapter that says 20V 4.51A output.
No dock.
I never got the message before. Any ideas
Thanks

Hi,
You have a motherboard problem. Live with it, replace it, or have it repaired. The MBD is the same as an Inspiron 8200. http://www.aqstech.com/ The link may help for a repair. If you do a search, you will find your not the first with this problem.

Based on what others have posted about the DC power wire failing between the iron core (that filters out electromagnetic interference) and the plug into the laptop, if you have a volt meter and know how to use it, I would check to be sure that you have +20v DC between Pin 3 and Pin 1 as well as Pin 3 and Pin 2.
The error message you are getting is from a check put in to see if the correct power brick is plugged into the laptop; the PA-6 and PA-9 are plug compatible BUT the PA-6 is only a 70 watt power supply not a 90 watt.
In the PA-6 connector, Pin 2 apparently isn't connected. If the wire in the PA-9 supply to Pin 2 breaks then the BIOS would think that the PA-9 is a PA-6.
The worst case would be if the break is in the laptop.
Good luck.
