Can I return my laptop?

Hello, I am Abe BAik a junior in high school.  I have ordered my dell xps 17 3D and i have not been impressed with it. First of all it is extremely loud because the fan turns on as soon as i boot up my computer. It also heats up incredibly! It uncomfortable using for over an hour... I bought it on 07/10/2012 and have rarely used it since i go to a boarding school that doesnt allow laptops other than the schools. So i have rarely had time to use it on home leaves. I think i have around 60+ hours on it. (turned on, sometimes it was just running idle) When i come from homeleave i use it for gaming but ive rarely been doing even that because of it gets really uncomfortable after using it for an hour. This is pretty disappointing... i paid 1,592.71 for this laptop... i am not at all impressed.  It also has a factory defect. The left side of the laptop makes a weird sound when i put my hands on top of it sometimes. I have been buying dell my whole life! My first computer was a dell! and i have been a loyal customer since i first got my laptop. My whole family uses dell because i recommend it to them and to all friends who are interested in laptops. I do understand that its been 9 months since i bought it but its completely new (like i said ive probably only got like 60 hours on it) I've worked all summer pulling weeds in 100 degree weather for weeks upon weeks, all that time after work i would go on dell.com and research on the best bang for my buck. But unfortuanetly it does not perform up to my expectations...  My main point is i wish to turn my laptop in and get  a dell gift card and buy a different model probably an Alienware Aurora because its made for gaming. i possibly could spend around 300 dollars more...

Your faithful customer,

Abe Baik

Edit: I have the shipping box of the laptop still. I also have the e-mails of the transactions.

The return period is 21 days from the ship data - after that, you cannot return the system.   If you have a defect, call for repair under warranty.

If you want to upgrade, the best way is to sell the system privately.  Just as with a car, you'll get more than with any trade-in deals (which Dell doesn't offer, but some stores might).  For a system that's the age yours is, though, you'll be lucky to get 50% of what you paid for it -- computers depreciate very quickly.
