Cannot start up using batery

I just bought an inspiron 6000 and it has windows xp. I cannot start up the laptop using batery. It starts up and goes throught xp and went blank/black when it gets to user log on but the power on and wi-fi symbols stay lit. If I use the ac adapter, it starts up OK. The batery is fully charge. I installed update the bios from A05 to A06. I ran diagnostic tests for the motherboard and batery and they passed all the test. I verified the power management that it does not goes to standby or hibernate within a few minutes after it starts up.

After I start up with the ac adapter, any time i unpluck it, the screen would go blank/black. I am not sure what's wrong.

Tks.

My guess is that you will need to update your video driver as one of the fixes in the new driver states "Addresses situation where some customers can experience a black screen when going from AC to battery power or booting in battery mode".

You can get the new driver by clicking on the link below. I suggest you uninstall your present driver before installing the new one.

Call Dell; return the system and re-order. You have only 21 days from shipment under your satisfaction guarantee. There is no point troublshooting a faulty system out of the box.
