Hi SmashMyComputer,

I can understand it can be frustrating when system is not functioning properly. Please let me know are you installing the driver from the drivers disk or from Dell support website. Please paste the screenshot of device manager with other devices (if any) expended if possible and we will take it further from there.

Keep me posted with the information. I will be glad to assist further.

Hi, thanks for the reply.

When I try the drivers disk that came with the computer, it gives me a choice of OS. If I select Win 8, it gives me a list of drivers on the disk. If I select Win 7, it says "There are no files available on this CD which match the criteria entered."

So, I'm getting the drivers from the Dell support site. I tried it with and without entering the service tag, and either way I can select Win 7 or 8. With or without the tag, it offers me pretty much the same drivers, but I tried them all and nothing seems to work.

Here's the screenshot. Hope it's what you're looking for, and that it's readable.

Thanks,  Dan.

I think you would need to install the drivers for Windows 7 from the support.dell.com's website. If you can't find the drivers then I suggest you to contact phone support.

I use Dell Latitude E5500. My fingerprint worked well with W7. After I change the operating system to W8, the fingerprint is no more working. Anyone has fingerprint driver for E5500 for W8? Please help.

Hi Seth855,

Dell has not tested the system with Windows 8 and the drivers are not available for the same. However you may try installing the driver for fingerprint in compatibility mode. Please refer to the link: http://dell.to/12EnkmN, click download file and save it on the desktop. To install driver in compatibility mode, you may follow the steps below:

  • Right click ‘Setup’ file and click ‘Properties’
  • Click ‘Install in compatibility mode’
  • Click Application and select ‘Troubleshoot Compatibility’
  • Next, click ‘Troubleshoot Program’
  • Click ‘Program worked in earlier versions of Windows’
  • Click ‘Windows 7’
  • Click ‘Start the Program’
  • Do not hit ‘Next’ until the installation completes
  • Once the installation completes, click on ‘Next’

Hope this helps. Please feel free to reply for any further questions.

I have follow your instruction but the program was not install, here is the error message:

I use to install this one before maybe I get corrupt install during that time. Maybe this is the reason to get this error, if this is the case, I need any tool to un-install the corrupt file first and reinstall this one again. Please help.

Hello,

In each of the links you provided, there are two downloadable files. Do I install them both? Is there a certain order?

Device ID: VEN 8086  DEV 0887

Thanks for your help.

Hi Seth855,

You may uninstall the fingerprint application completely from Control Panel-> Program and Features and from the ‘Device Manager’. You may follow the steps below:

  • Press ‘Windows’ key + R on ‘Desktop’ screen.
  • Type ‘devmgmt.msc’ in run box and press ‘Enter’.
  • Click > sign next to ‘Credential Vault Device’.
  • Right click the entry listed under ‘Credential Vault Device‘ and click ‘uninstall’.

Then reinstall the driver as explained above.

Keep me posted with the results. I will be glad to assist further.

There is no application name "Credential Vault Device’ in Control Panel", instead there is application call "Credential Manager". Credential Manager only store Password.
