Can't run DOS Boot CD with extended memory management

I'm trying to run some utility programs from DOS boot CD on my Inspiron 3800 to wipe my hard drive. The CD includes memory management features I need to wipe my Hard Drive. THe BIO is set to boot from CD first. But when I boot from the CD I get an error: "WARNING: The a20 line was already enabled". Is the BIOS loading the handler? - If so, how do I disable it?

Digihound,

Thank you for using Dell's Community Forum.

I can’t say specifically why you are having problems with that 3rd party program, but if you need to wipe the drive, I would just boot to your operating system CD and then from there you can access the drive’s partitions and format and re-partition.

Thanks for your suggestion, but reformatting and repartitioning isn't adequate for my needs. I need to actually wipe the whole disk to US government standards.

Please note that I don't expect you to advise me on my 3rd party program, just to advise me on whether the Inspiron BIOS automatically loads some some sort of memory management routine, and if it does, how I disable it.

Surely there must be some information at Dell about how the Inspiron operates??! :)

Norton has an Excellent DOD Accepted WIPE routine that you can put on a bootable floppy!  There are many other utils that do write 0's then 256's in three passes also!
