Can't see screen in sunlight

Hello visions of pool side menu making were dashed when I discovered that I was blind. Brought it back in and I could see again! Yikes almost had to get a girlfriend. Searched forums but alot was old or solutions for crt rather than notebooks. Hoping to read screen on boat for charting and weather. Anyone? Thanks in advance

Hi,

The only technologies that can approach what you are wishing for are called transreflective screens, ala Toshiba R500 ( http://cdgenp01.csd.toshiba.com/content/product/pdf_files/datasheet/portege_R500-S5001X.pdf)

Dell has a model also: The Latitude ATG line of laptops.

Lenovo's tablet pc also have this.

And the best screen is by far the motioncomputing.com outdoor screen: http://www.motioncomputing.com/buy/buy_le17.asp This screen is really really what you expect it to be. (the one on the right with the ViewAnywhere screen)

That's about it, roughly speaking.  Its not a powerhouse but hey, waiting a second more by the pool with a drink in hand can offset lotsa things :)

Best regards,

Antoine

Another option is a Panasonic Toughbook, many of which are designed for outdoor use.

Thanks, but I was hoping to keep what I have [more cash for the cold ones] Isn't there a filter that could be put over my big 17" screen?

All a filter will do is dim the screen further.
