coffee spill disaster
This would be hilarious if it wasn't so tragic.
Today I spilled coffee on my XPSM1530, machine ran for anbout 1 minute, then died.
The machine is 2 1/2 years old, so out of warranty.
I am competent around hardware, so i stripped the machine back and removed all moisture
Machine is now back together, but still won't turn on. (Blue light comes on for about 2 seconds then dies)
If i could diagnose the fault for certain, I would be happy to replace parts myself.
What i don't want to do is spend a lot of cash on a machine I was looking to replace in 12-18 months.
Help or advice please.

If the system was on when the spill happened, and cut off, chances are the mainboard is toast.
The problem is that there may be other damaged components - RAM, drives, etc. as well - which can turn into an expensive parts-swapping exercise in repair.

What kind of coffee was it? I just hope it was cheap instant as I would hate to see freshly ground go to waste.
There was a movie in the 80's I can't remember the name. Anyway a guy spills coke on a computer and it stops working. He towels it off and the computer comes back on only somehow the circuits crystallized and the computer became intelligent. Of course the computer then falls in love with the guys girlfriend but finally offs itself by sending a over current around the world via the phone to its self. The whole system blows up in sparks. So it could be worse. On the bright side you have a new angle with coffee and could go for new movie rights.

worst of all, it was good coffee, from my bean-to-cup machine !
looks like a new laptop, the studio XPS 16 looks nice.
if the movie ever gets made, i'll cut you in on the box office profits.
good news is that hdd is ok, so data can be saved.

Note that the Studio XPS 16 has been replaced by the new XPS 15 and 17 models - it is end of life.

What are they coming out with prequels now. Its just like Star Wars I preferred the originals. Gone the leather, gone the backlit keys but in with the optional tv tuner. Well the XPS 15 is £270 cheaper at least.
A new coffee machine it is then.

Shame about the coffee glad to hear the information is saved though. I look forward to the movie remake just make sure you invite me to the premier.
Check your home/office insurance to see what it covers. Look for accidental damage claims and excess.
Yes the studio XPS 16 does look nice. Pimp my ride, leather, backlite keyboard it should turn a few heads and if you have the money to get a blue-ray drive even better. Do they make a waterproof model? As for me I already have too many things I would like from Santa this year. Maybe I should just ask for a new coffee maker.
