College notebook decision (6/28/2006)
I just sold my old laptop for $1350. It was an old Inspiron 1150 that had been customized to $2100 in December 2004 (bad choice for a low-end laptop). Anyway, since laptops are cheaper and more powerful now, which do you recommend (for college): Inspiron E1505 or E1705? I can't spend more than $1500 this time around. I also don't want an integrated video card. I tried the coupons for this week (30% inspirons $999+) and it doesn't work (probably expired early). Sigh.. I just wait a few more days for the next set of coupons.

I suggest the 1705 if you want to play games on it. The 1505 if you want something for college that you can carry around easily.
The 1705 will be more upgradeable and it sounds like that is what you like to do. You should be able to get one for under $1500

Check out the Dell forum at www.notebookreview.com. There are several threads on college use of Inspiron models. One user decided to sell his new E1705 because it was too big and heavy to lug all around campus. I think he was going to get an E1505 to replace it.

Anyone who has trouble lugging the E1705 around needs more exercise, and badly.
I'm dreadfully out of shape and I have no problem taking the E1705 wherever I want. Of course, I have a Targus XL backpack which really helps... :)
