"Connection Failed due to Driver Preparation Error" message with Bluetooth headset install
I am trying to set up a Plantronics DSP 645 bluetooth headset for use on my Latitude D620. I have installed the latest Toshiba Stack for the integrated Dell Bluetooth 350 adapter. When I go to connect my headset, it recognizes the headset, takes the code, and then at the "Set-up in process (connecting to voice circuit)..." it freezes for a long while before bringing up the following error message:
"Connection failed due to driver preparation failure"
Any ideas of what this might be? Thanks!
My system specs:
Latitude D620
WXGA Screen
1 GB RAM
100 GB 7200 RPM HD
Intel Wi-Fi
Dell Bluetooth 350
Windows XP Pro

I'm getting the same exact error on a Dell 630 trying to use a Sony bluetooth stero headset, DR-BT22.
If I delete and recreate the connection it seems to work for a little while, but the error shows up the next time I try to connect.
Hmmm.. I wonder if it's because I didn't cleanly disconnect using the bluetooth configuration.

I found the answer on another site. I upgraded the Bluetooth driver.
Download the optional update for the Dell Driver: Wireless 360 Module with Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR.
Depending on your Dell model, the driver update name might be slightly different. But essentially update to a later version Bluetooth driver for your Dell and that will probably solve your problem. It did for me.
My Bluetooth stack / driver version is now: version 6.01.03(D)
Beware, the updated driver also defaults to higher Bluetooth security. This initally prevented me from connecting a Microsoft wireless mouse.
I had to set the Bluetooth security to the low setting so the mouse could connect without specifying a passcode.
Good luck solving your problem.
