CPU Usage too high!

My CPU usage is keeps topping out at 100% and will stay there for a while.

I am told this is not good.

I deleted all of my unused programs, and nothing uneccesary is running in the background.

Anyone have any solutions?

Yes, close it and see what happens.

Hmm interesting... tricky one, as Arjanvl said, try running virus scan and anti spyware checks using the software you have or these freeware ones: Spyware: Spybot search and destroy, Lavasoft Adware, AVG antivirus (update all before scanning)

I went to go close it and its now using 0 cpu usage. Should I still close it?

So, which process is causing this 100% usage then?

 (a screenshot would help)

Well that was unfun!!!

I did the adware scan, first time I got the blue screeen of death saying Windows had to shut down to protect it from damage.

Rebooted, did a scan the second time. Same thing, this time I had this error message

Kernal_Data_Inpage_Error

Stop:0x00000007a

ntfs.sys apress FB32DB13 Base at F72E0000, DATASTM 45CW6AC

When I reboot the second time I get the "The system recovered from a serious error" and below is what was "included" in the error report.

C:\DOCUME~1\KATIEC~1\Temp\WER60d9.dir00\Mini072008-01.dmp

 C:\DOCUME~1\KATIEC~1\Temp\WER60d9.dir00\sysdat.xml

So now what? should I re try the adware scan again? Should I turn back on that Windows program?

Good thing you started the scan.

I suggest to run that scan in safe-mode, as the system crashed during normal operation.

If all that doesn't work and the system keeps crashing, reinstall windows... that's probably also the fastest solution for now... as you struggled for a few days now. Making a backup and reinstalling windows will take about 2 hours (at most).

Could I just delete those two files?

UPDATE: I downloaded Spybot and ran it and it works fine. It found 2 trojans in my registry, along with some malware and PUDS (?). It did not crash the computer. I deleted Lavasoft, which i used before.

But now, Spybot is using up CPU usage and I am tapping out at 100 again.

Good to hear you got it to run. What you can do is uninstall Spybot, as it keeps an active process. It seems your laptop doesn't like too much processes running (i gues you have a celeron pocessor which tend to be b*chy about some processes)

Anyhow, de-install spybot, or disable the resident shield.

After doing this, check the cpu usage.

If it is still at 100%, i gues a re-install of Windows would be the last option. If it then again hits 100%, there must be a defect in the processor.
