CsXi Display Inverter cable

The display on my CsXi generally (but not always) turns grey with some paler areas, through which you can see shadows of the correct image.  I have been told that its the "inverter cable".  Does this sound right, and where can I get one and is it easy to replace?

It's not the inverter unless the screen is very dim or totally black. It sounds like a failure in the electronics board behind the screen.

Given the age of that system, you should be able to replace the whole panel relatively inexpensively.

Thanks.

I had some body take a look at it and their diagnosis was the inverter cable.  Now that I've pwewred it up since they put it back together, I am getting a much brighter screen with washed out colour and some vertical bands and stripes.  Does this suggest a new panel is the way to go?  Where could I get one?  Dell?

Well I suppose that could either mean that the cable and / or  the display needs replacing.  The bands only started after the "engineer" tooka look at it.  However, the display improved at the same time, but its still not good enough to be usable.  Any idea how much we're talking about here?

Verticle bands is bad connections to the display controller aka the display is bad. An external monitor will not have these artifacts etc.

A new 14" panel would run $400 or so. The older notebooks are often for sale for a fraction of that.
