Cursor jumps around when typing
This has been happening when typing emails in Outlook. It will be interesting to see if it happens while typing this. So far it's been OK. I have a Dell XPS M1530. There it did it just then, the 1530 jumped into the subject field. It always jumps into somewhere I have already typed. So it doesn't just happen in Outlook. It is very annoying. I am using a Bluetooth mouse, but also there is a touchpad just under my hands. Could it be that I bump it by mistake?
I don't know it that's the problem as the touchpad cursor is different to the typing cursor. I'm watching the touchpad cursor and it's not moving. The typing cursor is behaving itself now. I have just moved the touchpad cursor up the screen a bit and the typing cursor is still behaving itself. Sorry about all this running commentary on what's happening, but it was misbehaving before and now it's not.
Does anyone have any clues on this problem? While I am typing my hands are well clear of the touchpad. It just jumped again, and it did not jump to where the touchpad cursor was, so it's not related to that.

Hi, thanks for your response. I tried hovering my hand a swiping over top of the pad and the cursor didn't move. So nest I will try touch freeze

I disabled Dell quick set I lost some function of some keys like the eject button for the DVD, however it still works using the software eject. but since I disabled NO MORE JUMPING CURSOR! I have fixed mine this way and now 3 other friends and families Dells that had this same issue

Thanks for that. I have tried the freeze and so far that is working. But If I have another problem I will try your suggestion

Must be that Dell uses the General Motors business model... don't bother to fix it, just claim the problem doesn't exist. At least no one is going to die in a 10 computer pile up on the interstate.

Dell blames this on operator error. They say "we" must hit incorrect keys. I want to know what key you can hit that causes your cursor to fly up several sentences away and start in the middle of other words. I'm pretty sure it doesn't exist. If it does I don't want it.

I used touch freeze but it only worked for a little while. I have the problem more than ever. Between this issue and the charms issue in windows 8.1 I feel like this is the worst commuter ever. I will think more than twice before buying dell again

How very sarcastically funny. Just like me. And how very sad and true. I think your so right. My last lap top did the say thing. I saw a girl talk about the problem and a Dell rep say it was operator error. He said she was hitting some other key. Well what key is that? Could be useful if you could control it Grrrr

Thanks for taking the time to answer. This to me is a problem with Dell laptops. I have had 2 Dell laptops and they have both had the exact problem from the beginning.

This is copy and pasted from another a CNET forum. Lots of people had success with this fix.
I have an easy solution for cursor jumping problem. Double click on touch pad icon in your system tray. click on "Pointer Options". Then click on "Advanced" tab in left upper corner. Click on Advanced Feature setting. Click on "Settings" in Pointer speed and tapping setting box. Uncheck "Enable Tap" box. Click Apply. You are all set.

Thanks for trying to help Alaska, but when I go there I do not see pointer options. I am running windows 8.1 and that might be why. I have tried touch freeze also and for some reason that seemed to work for a while but then stopped. This entire thing makes no sense to me because there is not a button or place on the touch pad that you could touch to make the cursor jump up into the middle of a word other than specifically clicking into the middle of that word. I saw a Dell employee tell someone that it was because they had hit something they shouldn't have. I was just wondering what button or place that would be. Obviously it's a problem they can't or won't fix. Thanks again, Pamela

Sorry, to hear that. The fix on the CNET forum corrected my jumpy cursor problem, but I'm running Vista. Hope you can get some help with it, it's sooo frustrating!
