d520 lcd inverter problem

Question

this is a d520 15' xga  ok my lcd is dimm like you did the fn key and turned it all the way down i have tryed another lcd and 2 inverters i found today if i unplug the inverter with it up and runing and plug it back in it comes on bright but if you hit the fn key up or down it goes all the way back dimm untill you unplug and plug back in. flex cable maybe im stuck i dont no what to try

If the inverter(s) and display work OK on another notebook, the system board in the unit in question is the faulty part.

What is 'it'? The brightness controls won't work on an external monitor. Do the brightness controls work when you're in BIOS setup (i.e., not under Windows)? If so, but they don't work under Windows, you may have a Windows issue. If they don't work at BIOS setup either, with a known good inverter and display, you've a mainboard problem.

ok just pluged in to vga port to my 20 lcd and it is bright but the fn key up and down dont work

when hooked up thru vga to desktop lcd it is bright and the lcd on the laptop is dim i booted to bios and the fn key did not do anything . also i think there was a intel icon in my tool bar and it is gone i tryed uninstall drivers and reinstall but no luck.wonder why it is bright thru vga but not thru flex cable
