D600 - Disable Touch Pad Buttons below TouchPad
Hi,
I would like to disable the touchpad buttons below the touchpad. I thought I was able to do that as a result of disabling the touchpad as I do with my Latitude C600, but I can't separate them. I tend to lean on them when using the pointing stick, resulting in some odd dragging action - occasionally moving items when moving the pointing stick. I frequently move items when i don't want to, which becomes a problem when I can't find them...
Anyone know how to do this? Again, I assumed that diabling the touchpad would shut the lower buttons off, but alas, it did not.

The only problem with disabling the touch-pad keys is that you cannot disable one set. Either all are on or all are turned off. To turn the buttons off, look in the driver.

Yes, you can disable the buttons below the touchpad on Latitude D-Series. Just download the latest Alps drivers from Dell website.

Yes, the new driver allow you to do that. Our office just received new D400 and D800 which use the same Alps touchpad, and you can disable each buttons separately. Have you really tested the new driver?

I have the latest driver Alps Touch Pad 5.4.102.4 and I don't see any option to disable the lower mouse buttons. On another note, when I installed this driver, it disabled both mice and was only able to get them working again after I suspended my machine - rebooting didn't work. Any suggestions???

Yes dear reader,
You can disable the touchpad.
Once you install the latest ALPS driver set, just open Control panel, click mouse, and set the option you like. The default is Touchpad / stick. You can have just stick, or just touch pad. Click Apply, and your all set.
Trouble is, once you reboot you are back to square one, since it does not properly update the registry settings to accept the new configuration. The default setting is Touchpad/stick, and that's what it seems to revert back to after reboot.
Does anyone know the registry fix for this???

I don't want to be rude, but you're not reading the thread. this is not about the pad vs. the stick; it's about the left and right buttons on the keyboard above and below the touch pad. I want to shut off one set of buttons only, not both. I can't do it.

Hi,
This was never a problem for any of us. The latest driver is fine. Simply select the Pad radio button on the Device Select option in the Mouse Properties window. No registry fix was required.
The real issue I had was turning off one set of buttons vs. another - there are 2 left and 2 right mouse buttons and I wanted to turn off the two lower buttons. In older Dell laptops, disabling the touchpad shut off the lower mouse buttons. Not this machine.
