D600 intermitent crashes - IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Ok,

I've updated every driver posible in my 1 month old D600 and I get this Blue Screen Of Death around 4 times a week with the IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL error.

Has anyone had this kind of problems with their machine?

My configuration:
D600 - 1.6 GHz, 60 GB hard drive, 32 MB ATI 9000 RADEON, 1 GB (Crucial memory - 2 X 512 MB sticks), DVD/CD-RW, SXGA+ screen, 1300 b/g wireless card, 1 modem, 1 GBit network card...

Thanks for your help...I'm getting extremely anoyed and the Dell support just tells me to run the diagnostic software and all is well there...

I've seen a bunch of other people on this forum having all kinds of problems with their D600s and they all had Crucial RAM. I have a D600 with 512MB of factory RAM and never had a blue-screen since taking delivery on April Fool's Day (of all days! ).

Is the message you're getting preceded by a "Stop: 0x0000000A" (or similar) line?  If so, it's more than likely a driver issue.  See the link below for troubleshooting tips, and if you have questions, be sure to post the complete text of any error message(s) you're getting.

Flooby,

There is something like that...I've used WinDbg to see the dump files...I have had so many crashes, and have many memory dumps.

Here are the last two:

Can you see anything out of the ordinary there, cause I can't read those things...I will greatly appreciate it...

BTW, I have Windows 2000, SP3...

I have not experienced a single BSOD on my D600 (Win2k server) since I got it over a month ago, and its very heavily used. Differences I can see are: Wireless card (mine is the default Intel card), and memory (I have 1Gb of Dell installed RAM, so I assume its not from Crucial). Otherwise my configuration looks the same as yours. I'd look at those two areas if I were you, disabling the wireless card driver might the easiest first step.

The two are quite different. I'd work on it as a possible memory problem.

I don't know how all of you are using your D600, but when docked I was getting it frequently. The culprit was my Adaptec USB2 / Firewire combo card in the dock's PCI slot. Seems that the Dell D600 BIOS is incapable of routinely assigning IRQ's simultaneously to any PCI card that requires 2 IRQ's. Same problem with dual SCSI (3940/39160, etc). I occasionally get freezes (once or twice a day), but the IRQ Less than, etc.is goneafter removing the cards.

I also have a 3 week old D600 which has the occasional BSOD as above. I have the default 256MB of Dell ram and an extra 256 MB of Crucial Ram. However I have seen the error (only once) when the Crucial ram was removed. BSOD only happens once or twice a week but seems to be more likely just after changing the amount of ram (i.e. putting in/taking out the Crucial stick).

I got one of these IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL BSODs on my D800 a couple of days ago when trying to watch DVD on the TV through the S-Video dongle - when I closed the lid of the laptop (which is not set to take any action on lid close, incidentally), it blue-screened.  Dell tech claim it is a driver issue.

FYI,

I called Dell support today and some cocky lady (She said she was the second best tech support) said that it is not a hardware problem. I asked how can she be so sure and she said she just knew and said "there is nothing wrong with hardware. It's a software error. And we don't do software."

Of course after trying to explain that there could be a small posibility that the hardware maybe malfunctioning (Of of many pieces) - but she had none of that - she said to re-install the OS and reformat the HD. She also suggested to go to google.com and search for the error message in the blue screen and find out how other people fixed that particular error...My mouth dropped, of course. I wanted her to fix my problem, not myself...

Ah, she also said to run the computer without any software installed :) - And then she said, ok, you can run the OS - Which makes for a very boring somputer since I need all the software I install to work...She said, "Anyway, reinstall the OS..."

I'm very frustrated and don't know what could be causing the crashes...Enough venting, hopefully you will be able to fix your issues...

My friend got his new Inspiron 600m and is having the same problem. He removed the crucial ram and still had the problem so he ruled out the ram.

His config: Inspiron 600m: 1.3Ghz, 128(Dell)+512(Crucial) RAM, SXGA, b/g card, bluetooth, 30GB HDD, CDRW/DVD.

I got my D600 a week later and have the same problem. I also have the latest drivers and windows updates. I would imagine that more people must be having this problem. From one of the user's notes I will try to run the laptop with the wireless card disabled. Does the people having this problem have bluetooth? I haven't contacted dell since I don't have time to reinstall OS, run extended diags. and jump through other hoops. I did a clean install when I got the system.

My config: Latitude D600: 1.3Ghz, 128(Dell)+512(Crucial) RAM, XGA, b/g card, bluetooth, 30GB HDD, CDRW/DVD.

Just to add to the numbers, looks like I'm having the same problem.

As well as the IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL error, I've also had:

PFN_LIST_CORRUPT and
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

and like everyone else I'm also using Crucial memory:

My Configuration:
D600 - 1.4 GHz, 60 GB hard drive, 32 MB ATI 9000 RADEON, 1 GB (Crucial memory - 2 X 512 MB), DVD/CD-RW, XGA screen, 2100 wireless card, 1 modem, 1 Gb network card, XP Pro

I've run an intensive memory checker (MemTest 86) which finds no problems, so I'm not convinced it's hardware, but this thread has raised my concerns over the Crucial RAM.  I'm returning the Crucial RAM and ordering replacements from Dell (I think they use Kingston).  Hope this fixes things !

Well I guess I'm lucky! Hate the hot sweaty palm rest, but at least I've never had a blue screen crash, otherwise I'd really want to throw it out of the window!

As I mentioned before, I use this thing a lot, it gets about as exercised as any machine could get, so I think I'm safe. I agree memory is likely the culprit, since I have Dell installed 2 x 512Mb.

FYI,

Regarding the IRQL's blue screens...

I have 2x512 MB Crucial RAM - Trying to resolve my crashing issues, I've put the 128 MB stick of RAM back into my D600 machine - That was the original configuration - And no crashes...

Since I need more memory than 128 MB, I then added one 512 MB stick together with the 128 MB stick and 2 days with no crashes...

Are the crashes due to faulty/uncompatible memory from Crucial? It's too soon to tell...But, I will keep posting if my crashes improve...

BTW, I called Crucial over the weekend regarding their warranty and they have a life time warranty - If it happens to be faulty/uncompatible RAM, they will exchange it at no cost throughout the life of the product. So there is hope, if it's the RAM making so many D600 crash all the time...

Is the majority of the D600 machines blue screaning using Crucial RAM? Just a survey, and in no way will indicate that the RAM is cause of the crashes - BTW, I think Crucial rocks :)

I used my D600 for 3 months already (running Win2k Pro), never seen a BSOD.

I ordered 128MB from Dell, throw that away, and bought two 256MB Kingston RAM from Amazon (they had a sale that time, $35 per piece).  I have used many different Kingston RAM in the past, absolutely no problem.  Also it seems that it somehow has a lower temperature (compared to other crucial RAM temperature measured by others in this forum).

I don't work for Kingston, but I highly recommend it.

I have had had my D600 crash about once day since I received it.  A co-worker has had the same experience.  I have also had the PFN_LIST_CORRUPT and PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA as well.  I have 1 GB of Dell factory memory.

I think I had the same woman tech support; she was a nightmare to work with.   I spend about 500K a year with Dell.  If the first two D600s we have received are representative of what we will expect from this product line, we may look to another vendor.

We have reloaded the OS and patched the machines a number of times and the problem still occurs.  We both had the dual-mode wireless card and we were wondering if that was the problem.  How many out there have the 802.11b/g/a card?
