D600 Keyboard flexing
I'm having trouble with the keyboard on my D600 flexing noticably. I noticed that Dell seems to have come up with a fix for this on the D800. Is a fix available for the D600?
For reference, I received my D600 in mid July.

dukelurp,
Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.
There is no issue with the keyboard on the Latitude D600.

The keyboard definitely flexes a lot during typing. The older Latitude C series laptops that I've used in the past don't exhibit that behavior...

dukelurp,
Dell fixed an issue with the keyboard flex on the Latitude D800 and Inspiron 8500. No other systems use this keyboard and so this issue does not apply to them.

I received my D600 in early July as well. The keyboard is, by far, the worst I have ever seen. Thankfully, my notebook is docked 95% of the type and I do not have to type on it. It is so inferior as compared to my old CsX as well as other SONY's, IBM's and Toshiba's in my company.
Bob-T, I know you're just keeping to the company line, and I respect that, but dude, you gotta know that you are totally wrong. Really.

I agree. that is total nonsense. There are many threads about the D600 keyboard problems. Especially flex over the hard drive and cooling fan on the left side since those are not flush like the right side of the case is. Dell replaced my original keyboard for one that has less holes in it on the underside. The keyboards for the D600/D800 seem to be identical. Once again, Dell chooses to ignore customer complaints.

mccabedoug,
I will very happily be wrong. If this is the case then please update your profile with the service tag of a D600 system that has this issue so that I can do something about this. Please respond when you have done this.

Dell-BobT, I updated my profile to include my D600 service tag. My old CsX service tag was in there before. Again, I'm not sour on the D600 as a notebook, however, the cheap-feeling, flexing keyboard truly is the weakest link of the machine. The heat under the left palm rest, while quite hot, is not a big deal to me.
Since the purchase of my D600 in early July, has there been an updated, higher quality keyboard developed and shipped with the newer D600s? If so, I'd love one. I look forward to your response. Thanks.

mccabedoug,
I looked on the parts list and the part number listed in the master list is different from that on your order. I am unsure which is newer, but you may wish to contact Dell Support to see if you can have service set up.

Dell-BobT, so what you are saying is that the PN of the keyboard that was part of my D600 order in July is different from what is being shipped now, correct?
If so, sweet. I'll contact Dell Tech Service. Thanks and I'll post a response after I contact Dell Tech Service. It'll be a few days as I have to go out of town (and use that keyboard!) for a few days.

Hello DELL-BobT,
i have the same keyboard problem at my D800 (bought July). The keyboard is not fixed solid at the upper left side and the keys Q,W,E,1,2,3 rattle. The technician has already changed the palm-rest without success and the support channel don't know whether there is a solution already available or not.
What can i do? Are there already new keyboards available?
Please help.
Best regards,

Volker,
There was an issue with the keyboard flexing on the Inspiron 8500 and Latitude D800. Dell has since resolved this. The solution for this is to have Dell replace the keyboard on the system. For this, you will have to contact Dell Support to set the system up for a hardware replacement.
