D600 Keyboard flexing

I'm having trouble with the keyboard on my D600 flexing noticably. I noticed that Dell seems to have come up with a fix for this on the D800. Is a fix available for the D600?

For reference, I received my D600 in mid July.

Purchased brand new D600 just a couple of weeks ago. Heat is tolerable but keyboard flex is not. End User would like to return it and get a thinkpad that has a rigid keyboard if problem cannot be resolved.

Any solutions yet Bob T or is there still not an issue?

ddykema,

Dell had an issue with the keyboard flexing too much on the Inspiron 8500 and Latitude D800.  No other system uses the same part number for the keyboard that these do, so none of the other systems can have this same issue.  If, however, you believe that there is validity to the claim or you believe that the keyboard does flex, then you should contact Dell Support where this can be handled on a case-by-case basis.

Volker,

I just purchased a D800 (Mar 04) and have exactly the same problem with the QWERTY side of the key pad flexing.  I just called support who said they will send a tech out with a new keyboard.  I would have thought if a fix had been found that it would be on the keyboard I have now, considering its Mar 04!  Did you get any resolution with this at all?

Might as well share my disappointment with this, too. My D600 keyboard definitely flexes and frustrates the heck out of me.

Bob T, Do you know if Dell has released an updated keyboard for the D600 yet? In December 2003 I ordered both a Thinkpad T40 and a D600 for comparison purposes. The keyboard on the T40 was far superior to that on the D600, but after reading this forum (and being happy with two prior Dell notebooks) I decided to return the T40 and keep the D600 hoping that Dell would release a fix. The D600 keyboard is the main reason preventing me from recommending this notebook to others. Hopefully Dell will release an updated part soon and make it available to those who are not satisfied with the flexy keyboards! Any info or help you can provide will be much appreciated.

I know there are at least two different versions of the keyboard, there's a D600 on display where I work and just by looking at the shape of the keys I can tell it's different from mine, they seem more rounded at the bottom.  It feels a little more solid, still not as good as the T40, but better.  I'll try to get the system tag off of it so I can get the part number.
