D610 XGA

I recently bought a new d610 and mistakenly got an XGA screen, which has a native resolution of 1024x768. I searched the forums for ways to adjust the resolution but it would seem that this is the maximum possible. So I called dell directly to see what I could do to get a higher resolution screen. They told me the only way to get a higher resolution was to purchase an SXGA LCD screen. So I bought the screen ($340!), and installed it. However, when I switch on my computer now the screen just goes black, then white, then green, red and blue, and then back to black, white, green...and so on. I put the XGA screen back in and everything is fine again (except the resolution). All of the connectors seem to be connected properly.

When I called dell they tried to help me and then when they couldn't figure out what was going on they told me that do not support anything except the original hardware comfiguration.

Has anybody had a similar problem, or have any idea how to fix this?

thanks,

barry

Which video do you have? As I recall, the higher-resolution video is only an option with the ATI X300, not the Intel integrated graphics.

thanks for the reply. I have the intel version. They do sell the d610 with intel integrated graphics and a SXGA+ screen that will get a higher resolution (1400x1050). I was hoping (and told by dell support) that just replacing my xga screen with the sxga+ screen would work. I honestly don't have a clue though, and can only go on what they told me.

How did you purchase the new screen?  Do you have a Dell part number for the item?  I may do the same thing,  I just don't want to spend lots of time trying to track down the correct item if you already have it.

Thanks,

Jeff

I purchased the screen from dell. I just called support and they put me through to spare parts I think. Apparently I got sent the wrong screen though. I returned the screen and was told that the correct screen is on the way. Hopefully I will receive it in the next few days.

I don't have the part number with me right now, but I will post it here later this evening. (It is something along the lines of R6316 or R3613 or something like that.)

Remember, I haven't actually confirmed that this is going to work. I'll keep you posted though when the correct screen arrives.

I just got the screen and it didn't work.

I am going to call dell support later today to see if they can help. I am not hopeful.
