d630 cpu upgrade
I am planning to upgrade a latitude D630 notebook equipped with a t7100 1.8 ghz Core 2 Duo by installing a t7700 2.4 ghz Core 2 Duo cpu. Will I have to re-flash the bios or change the heat sink because of the faster cpu? Finally, should I use a thermal pad between the heat sink and cpu or should I just use thermal paste? thanks

The BIOS is a software update. You can find the latest BIOS at support.dell.com.
Thermal pads can be bought many different ways - most computer shops should have them.

Are the thermal pads universal or specific to the application ( is the material bought as a sheet and cut to size for the application ) ? Also , by installing the latest BIOS upgrade do you mean a software upgrade or do I need to change some hardware on the system board? Thanks for your response!

You should install the latest BIOS update before upgrading the CPU -- you likely will need a new thermal pad, since it's very likely heatsink compound alone won't fill the gap between the heatsink and heat slug.
You'll need to re-use the same heatsink -- nothing else will fit. You're replacing one 35W processor with another so it should be no problem.
